Indian authorities have arrested three individuals, including an assistant editor, following the illegal online leak of popular Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay`s highly anticipated final film, Jana Nayagan. The Cyber Crime Department registered a formal case, naming assistant editor Prasanth, along with Selvam and Balakrishnan, as the primary suspects. This sudden Thalapathy Vijay movie leak has sparked intense security concerns within the South Indian film industry.
The cinematic project had concluded its principal photography months ago but remains stalled awaiting regulatory clearance.
According to police reports, the unreleased film was pirated and distributed across multiple online platforms on April 3. Directed by H. Vinoth, the political action drama was originally scheduled for a major theatrical release during the January 2026 Pongal festival. However, India`s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withheld the approval, citing concerns that the film’s explicit political messaging could influence upcoming regional elections. A planned special screening for review committee members in March was also abruptly canceled due to an official`s sudden illness, worsening the delay.
Producer K. Venkat Narayan clarified that the production house remains fully cooperative and is actively waiting for official CBFC clearance before announcing a new theatrical release date. The incident comes amid heightened public interest, as Vijay recently transitioned into full-time politics and serves as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking Jana Nayagan as his retirement film from the entertainment industry. The high-budget project features an ensemble star cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
