Egypt Vows Full Support To Defend Saudi Arabia Against Attacks

Egypt has promised to provide all necessary forms of support to defend Saudi Arabia against escalating attacks from Yemen’s Houthi movement.

The commitment was made on Monday during a meeting of Egypt’s defense council at the presidential palace in Cairo. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi chaired the gathering, which reviewed dangerous developments across the region.

According to a statement released by Egypt’s State Information Service, the council declared full solidarity with the kingdom. The statement emphasised deep historical ties between Cairo and Riyadh, and said Saudi national security is directly linked to Egyptian and broader Arab security.

The council decided to offer all necessary and possible forms of assistance to defend the kingdom’s security and stability. This support aims to protect Saudi resources, maintain territorial integrity, and safeguard Islamic holy sites.

Alongside military backing, officials resolved to intensify political and diplomatic efforts. Cairo plans to coordinate with relevant regional and international parties to reduce tensions and peacefully resolve ongoing conflicts.

The Egyptian policy shift comes after a sharp escalation in hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group. The Yemeni movement has repeatedly targeted the kingdom with drone and missile strikes.

Top political, military and security figures attended the high-level meeting in the Egyptian capital. The attendees included the parliament speaker, prime minister, defence minister and the army chief of staff.

Senior participation also featured the foreign and interior ministers, the intelligence chief, and commanders representing the various branches of the Egyptian armed forces.
