Israeli Authorities Issue Over 9,500 Demolition Notices in West Bank

Israeli authorities issued more than 9,500 demolition and stop-work notices across the occupied West Bank over a decade, according to official figures released on Tuesday. The Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission stated that these administrative orders halted ongoing construction and left properties facing immediate destruction.

The commission reported that the notices disrupted the daily lives of families. They limited the ability of local communities to construct new homes, expand public services, and sustain livelihoods.

A document obtained by Anadolu revealed that the total comprised 9,174 notices issued between 2015 and 2025, alongside an additional 344 notices logged during the first nine months of 2026.

The commission cautioned that its statistics did not capture every notice distributed by Israeli authorities. The figures relied strictly on cases documented by the commission and partner legal organisations.

These partner organisations included the Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Center and the Society of St Yves. Geographically, the impact was distributed unevenly across multiple governorates.

Hebron recorded the highest proportion with 2,697 notices. Bethlehem followed with 1,310 notices, Ramallah and al-Bireh registered 1,118, and Jerusalem accounted for 929 notices.

Annual figures showed an upward trajectory over the decade. The total peaked at 1,333 notices in 2023, rising from 701 notices recorded in 2015.

Separate data released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs showed broader destruction during the same timeline. OCHA documented that nearly 12,000 structures were demolished across the territory.

This total included 1,698 structures that had been funded by international donors. According to OCHA, these demolitions displaced more than 18,000 Palestinians and affected approximately 843,000 individuals.

The UN office stated that authorities carried out these destructions for various reasons. These included a lack of Israeli-issued building permits, punitive measures, and actions taken during military operations.
