Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Visit China

Following recent diplomatic visits by US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to visit China. This trip is part of a broader diplomatic effort by Islamabad to address the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and promote peace initiatives. According to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister will be in Beijing from May 23 to 26.Bilateral relations and regional stability remain high on the agenda.

During a regular press briefing on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that Sharif would discuss bilateral ties and issues of common interest with Chinese leadership. Beijing remains committed to working alongside Pakistan to restore peace and stability in the Middle East. China expressed full support for Pakistan‍‍`s balanced mediation efforts aimed at ending hostilities in the region.Pakistan has played a key role in mediating recent tensions.

Over the past few months, Islamabad has been a central actor in trying to bridge the gap between the United States and Iran. As part of these ongoing diplomatic maneuvers, General Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, traveled to Tehran on Thursday. The goal is to maintain the exchange of messages between Tehran and Washington amidst the current crisis.Complex regional issues remain significant obstacles to progress.

Disagreements regarding Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, security in the Strait of Hormuz, and broader regional anxieties about missile capabilities continue to stall substantial progress. Islamabad is intensifying its diplomatic outreach amid fears that current ceasefire efforts could collapse. Sharif’s visit to Beijing is expected to leverage China’s influence in seeking a viable path forward.
