Expatriate Bangladeshis have sent $2.62 billion in remittances during the first 20 days of May. This represents a daily average of over $130 million, marking a 38.3% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank.
The surge indicates strong growth in remittance inflows.
Data from the central bank reveals that $139 million was received on May 20 alone. During the first 20 days of May last year, the country received $1.897 billion. This year’s figures show a significant uptick, underscoring a robust trend in incoming foreign funds.
The fiscal year statistics remain promising.
From July to May 20 of the current 2025-26 fiscal year, total remittances reached $31.955 billion, up from $26.434 billion during the same period in the previous fiscal year. Bangladesh Bank reported that the growth rate of remittance inflows for this fiscal year currently stands at approximately 20.9%.
This trend follows record-breaking figures from earlier this year.
In March, Bangladeshi expatriates sent $3.75 billion, the highest single-month remittance in the country`s history. These consistent inflows are viewed as a vital support mechanism for the nation`s foreign exchange reserves and broader economic stability.
