Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Rohingya refugee camps in Cox`s Bazar, Bangladesh, on Friday, underscoring Ankara’s commitment to the displaced population. Fidan arrived in Cox`s Bazar from Dhaka by air and proceeded directly to the Balukhali area in Ukhia to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground. During his visit to Camp 9, he toured field hospitals funded by the Turkish government and engaged with patients receiving critical medical care.
The Foreign Minister also conducted an inspection of camps 16 and 17, where he reviewed the operations of Turkish-built medical facilities and held discussions with health officials regarding the ongoing humanitarian requirements of the refugee community. Prime Minister`s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, along with local administrative and law enforcement officials, accompanied Fidan during the tour. The visit served to highlight the extensive humanitarian infrastructure Turkey has established in the region to support those fleeing violence in Myanmar.
Security measures were significantly tightened across the camp vicinity to accommodate the visit, which officials confirmed concluded peacefully. Turkey has been a consistent provider of humanitarian aid to the Rohingya population since they were forced to flee their homes years ago. Beyond providing immediate relief, Ankara has remained vocal on the global stage, advocating for the safe and dignified repatriation of the refugees to their homeland.
During his visit, Minister Fidan reiterated Turkey’s dedication to supporting a sustainable resolution to the crisis, emphasizing the necessity of sustained international focus on the long-term future of the Rohingya community. He commended Bangladesh for its ongoing hospitality and efforts in managing the world’s largest refugee camp. The diplomatic tour highlights the close ties between Turkey and Bangladesh, as both nations continue to call for international cooperation to address the complexities of the Rohingya repatriation process.
