What Dua to Recite When First Seeing the Kaaba in Makkah

Pilgrims entering the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah often seek guidance on the specific supplications to recite upon their first visual encounter with the Holy Kaaba. According to historical accounts documented by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani in Talkhis al-Habir, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would pray for the increase of honor, dignity, and reverence of this sacred house. The supplication asks God to bestow greatness upon the Kaaba and to honor those who perform Hajj or Umrah with piety and virtue. This tradition serves as a spiritual anchor for millions of Muslims as they begin their pilgrimage.

The act of Tawaf, or circumambulating the Kaaba, also involves specific prophetic practices although no single prayer is considered mandatory for the ritual‍‍`s validity. According to Sahih Bukhari, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would say Allahu Akbar whenever he reached the corner of the Black Stone or Hajar al-Aswad. This practice of Takbir is a sunnah that marks the beginning of each of the seven circuits. While any meaningful prayer or remembrance of God is permissible during Tawaf, following the specific actions of the Prophet is highly encouraged for spiritual fulfillment.

Specific emphasis is placed on the portion of the Tawaf between the Yemeni Corner, known as Rukn al-Yamani, and the Black Stone. Sunan Abi Dawud reports that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would recite the Quranic prayer from Surah al-Baqarah during this interval. The prayer asks for goodness in this world and the hereafter while seeking protection from the fire of hell. This balanced supplication reflects the Islamic principle of seeking well-being in both the physical and spiritual realms. Beyond these specific instances, pilgrims are free to engage in personal prayers that resonate with their individual needs and spiritual state.
