Four Bangladeshi scholars have been selected to translate and present the Hajj sermon in Bengali this year. Dr. Muhammad Khalilur Rahman, Dr. A.F.M. Wahidur Rahman, Mubinur Rahman Farooq, and Nazmus Sakib will lead the efforts. All four scholars completed their higher education at Umm al-Qura University in Mecca and are working under the Language and Translation Agency of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.
This marks the seventh consecutive year of the Bengali translation project.
The Saudi government broadcasts the Hajj sermon live in over 50 languages to ensure accessibility for pilgrims worldwide. Dr. Muhammad Khalilur Rahman, director of the Bengali section for the Haramain sermon project, confirmed his involvement, noting this is his fifth time contributing. The team includes multiple experts, though two are assigned to live presentation duties. Dr. Rahman brings extensive experience from his decade-long tenure as an anchor and translator for Saudi International Radio.
The Hajj sermon will be delivered on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah (May 26) by Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Abdur Rahman Al-Hudhaifi, Imam and Khateeb of the Grand Mosque, from the historic Masjid Namira on the plain of Arafat. The translation initiative was launched in 1439 AH (2018) under the special directive of King Salman bin Abdulaziz. What began as a five-language broadcast has expanded significantly over the years.
Bengali-speaking Muslims globally can access the live translation through the Al-Haramain-Sermons YouTube channel and the official Manarat al-Haramain website. The translation project now covers weekly Friday sermons, Eid prayers, and other significant religious addresses, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity for the global Muslim community.
