Simultaneously, Ukraine launched what Russian officials have described as one of the most massive drone attacks in recent memory against the Moscow region. Governor Andrey Vorobyov stated that the assault resulted in significant damage, including a fire at a warehouse belonging to the prominent online retailer Wildberries. Six people were reported injured in the region. Ukrainian military officials stated that these operations are part of a broader strategy to undermine Russia’s war economy, targeting high-value logistics and industrial sites that support Moscow’s offensive capabilities.
The conflict further escalated as the war spilled into the territory of a NATO member. The Romanian Ministry of Defence announced that a Spanish F-18 fighter jet, operating under a NATO air-policing mission, intercepted and shot down a drone that had breached Romanian airspace near the border with Moldova and Ukraine. The interception occurred at approximately 05:01 local time, and debris fell in an uninhabited area of the Galati region. According to Reuters, NATO spokesperson Martin O’Donnell stated that the incident remains under investigation, but initial assessments suggest the drone was likely of Russian origin.
