Israeli air strikes killed at least three Palestinians and wounded several others in the Gaza Strip on Monday, according to health officials.
Medics in the south of the enclave stated that two people died and six others sustained injuries following two separate air strikes in Khan Younis. A third person was killed during a separate Israeli air strike in the town of Al-Mussadar.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the attacks. Israel stated that the Hamas militant group has been rearming and launching attacks in violation of a year-old ceasefire, leading military forces to step up strikes in recent weeks.
Hamas denied attempting to carry out attacks or rebuild its arsenal, accusing Israel of undermining the Gaza peace deal.
The US-brokered ceasefire reached last year called for the eventual reconstruction of the territory. Little progress has been achieved because negotiators failed to agree on terms for Hamas to disarm or for Israel to withdraw its troops.
Israeli troops currently control about two-thirds of the territory and have ordered residents out of those areas. Nearly all of the more than two million residents now live in the remaining third of the enclave among war ruins. Most people reside in makeshift tents and damaged buildings under the effective control of Hamas.
Health officials stated that at least 1,580 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks in Gaza since the implementation of the ceasefire. Israel reported that four of its soldiers have been killed.
Palestinian authorities reported that more than 74,000 people have been killed in Israel’s military assault on Gaza. The broader conflict began after Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
