King Abdullah II of Jordan declared on Monday that Israel’s expansionist ambitions represent the most severe danger to the future of the Middle East.
Addressing parliament, the Jordanian monarch stated that regional security depends entirely on Palestinians securing their rights to their land.
"Israeli expansionist ambitions remain the greatest threat to the region’s future and its hopes," King Abdullah said in his speech.
He pointed to the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and continuing Israeli attacks across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. These violations persist despite international calls for an end to Israeli actions.
The king said lasting stability is impossible without full recognition of Palestinian land rights.
"Those who believe tyranny grants legitimacy are mistaken, and those who believe time erases the truth are mistaken," he stated.
King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s dedication to its principles, its Arab identity, and the defence of Arab causes. He pledged that Amman would maintain this historical stance, following the path of his father and passing it to his son.
Fostering a unified Arab position remains a primary objective for Jordan’s foreign policy.
The speech coincided with Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which began in October 2023. The war has resulted in the deaths of more than 74,000 Palestinians and left over 175,000 others injured, with women and children making up the majority of casualties.
Alongside the offensive in Gaza, Israeli military operations and attacks by illegal occupiers have escalated in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
