Bennett’s nearest Democratic competitor, Tina Shah, managed to secure just 20.2 percent of the ballots, leaving Bennett with a comfortable margin of victory as she transitions to the general election phase.
The race has drawn intensive national scrutiny due to Kean`s prolonged absence from Washington. The 57-year-old Republican lawmaker has missed more than 100 consecutive House votes since early March because of an undisclosed illness. New Jersey`s 7th Congressional District spans a diverse mix of suburban neighborhoods, farming towns, and Trump’s Bedminster golf club.
