Indian Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi claimed on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not remain in power for another year. Speaking at an event for tribal communities in New Delhi, the Congress leader alleged that the administrative and institutional foundations underpinning the BJP government are crumbling from within. Gandhi also expressed apprehension that the Prime Minister might resort to measures akin to a state of emergency to retain his grip on power.

Gandhi asserted that there is growing unrest within India‍‍`s government institutions. He stated that even from within the Election Commission, an institution he claims the government has sought to manipulate, he is receiving messages. Furthermore, he claimed that the heads of various intelligence and investigative agencies are regularly sending him information regarding the internal state of affairs.

The opposition leader made a sensational claim, stating, "I am receiving information one after another about Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and their children." He added that Modi is in a state of deep anxiety because he realizes that the system he has controlled for years is now disintegrating.

Regarding the national economy, Gandhi warned that a catastrophic economic tsunami is approaching. He argued that the current government has dismantled the economic shock absorbers necessary to counter global volatility, which has led to a significant spike in commodity prices. He suggested that as public anger mounts over these issues, the government may attempt to implement strict measures similar to a state of emergency to maintain control.

For historical context, a state of emergency was officially declared in India on June 26, 1975, by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to address political instability and economic crises. The Congress party and other opposition blocs have recently alleged that India is currently under an undeclared emergency, and Gandhi’s latest remarks appear to reinforce that narrative.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted sharply to Gandhi’s comments. BJP leaders dismissed his claims as baseless propaganda and labeled him a "politician of propaganda." According to the Hindustan Times, the remarks have sparked intense debate across the Indian political spectrum, with analysts suggesting that Gandhi’s assertions could further mobilize opposition movements against the government.
