Putin and Xi Urge End to Unilateral Maritime Interference

China and Russia have strongly called for an immediate end to unilateral interference in international commerce and supply chains. The joint declaration was formally released on Wednesday during the second day of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official state visit to China. The administrative announcement followed high-level bilateral talks between the two leaders in Beijing.

The official statement focused heavily on preserving the integrity of global maritime transport.

The text noted that unilateral actions taken by certain states, alliances, and partners directly disrupt international shipping lanes. The two global powers stressed that such geopolitical maneuvers pose an immediate threat to maritime trade as a whole. Although the statement did not explicitly name a specific waterway, international observers confirm the remarks directly address the ongoing crisis in the Hormuz Strait. Both nations insisted that maritime cooperation must remain strictly market-based.

Iran effectively closed the critical shipping route on February 28 following an intense military assault launched by US and Israeli forces. The strategic passage normally handles roughly 20 percent of all global oil and gas exports. Hope emerged on April 8 when a formal ceasefire agreement concluded 40 days of active warfare between Washington and Tehran.

However, the vital navigation lane remains heavily blocked due to a strict US naval blockade maintained outside Iranian ports. The prolonged maritime standoff has sparked a severe energy crisis worldwide, driving international crude prices to historic highs. Moscow and Beijing concluded that international port infrastructure projects must be completely insulated from excessive security overreach and political weaponization.
