Yemen witnessed fierce military confrontations between internationally recognized government forces and Houthi fighters on Sunday, leaving more than 60 people including civilians dead, Al Jazeera and AFP reported. Heavy exchanges occurred across several flashpoints, concentrated primarily within Taiz and Hodeidah governorates as well as along the western Red Sea coastal corridor. Field reports indicated that exchanges of artillery and small-arms fire intensified sharply over the weekend.

The Yemeni military confirmed it recaptured Hais district located south of Hodeidah, according to reportage from Turkiye`s Anadolu Agency. The territory serves as an essential geographic link joining Hodeidah, Taiz, and Ibb provinces. Military spokespersons stated that advancing units forced opposing fighters out of defensive pockets across the district before establishing fortified checkpoints along main roadways.
Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi stated that the national armed forces possess the operational capability to restore administrative control over the country`s sovereign territory. He warned that the Houthis would bear the consequences of escalating hostilities on multiple axes. Al-Alimi added that Taiz would never serve as an open transit corridor for external backers of the group.
The leadership council chairman concluded that tactical miscalculations by the armed movement would accelerate its eventual collapse. Regional authorities continue to monitor civilian displacements triggered by the shelling.
