Yemen military operation launched against Houthi forces

Rashad al-Alimi, the chairman of Yemen‍‍`s Presidential Leadership Council, has ordered the resumption of broad military operations to retake remaining territories controlled by Houthi forces. The internationally recognized administration directed all army units, security personnel, and allied military formations to execute coordinated missions across designated battlefronts. The announcement coincided with assertions from Saudi-backed Yemeni military officials that government forces killed 700 Houthi combatants in 257 distinct engagements over a 24-hour period.

Ground conditions across the fractured country remain highly contested.

Military officials said government artillery and air assets struck command installations and munitions depots in several provinces, including Taiz, Sanaa, and Marib. However, voices aligned with the Houthi movement disputed the operational significance of the government‍‍`s declaration. Speaking from Sanaa, political commentator Hussein al-Bukhaiti characterized the Riyadh-based council as detached from operational developments, arguing that Houthi forces recently secured critical segments of the highway linking Taiz to Aden. Al-Bukhaiti stated that Houthi units now control an estimated 80 percent of Taiz province, reversing previous government positions and cutting key logistics corridors.

Broader geopolitical frictions continue to shape the standoff. Iran‍‍`s chief negotiator warned that the era of delaying diplomatic progress has ended, insisting that the United States must comply with the seven conditions outlined in the June Islamabad agreement. The regional deadlock has maintained severe security strain across strategic shipping routes and coastal frontiers.

Simultaneously, humanitarian distress deepened further west in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Red Crescent confirmed the departure of an extensive convoy transporting more than 3,185 tonnes of essential relief goods. Organized under the Zad el-Ezza initiative, the shipment includes bulk food supplies, medical consignments, and petroleum fuel designated for health facilities struggling under total resource exhaustion.

The influx of goods arrives as international health bodies warn of a systemic breakdown across the coastal enclave. The World Health Organization confirmed that zero hospitals in the Strip are operating at full capacity because of compounding shortages of fuel, surgical consumables, and clean water. WHO official Reinhilde Van De Weerdt stated that medical supplies face an average clearance delay of 74 days, with diagnostic technology like X-ray machinery subjected to frequent rejection.
