Superstar Vijay Set to Become Tamil Nadu CM

The confirmation came during a high-stakes briefing by TVK General Secretary Adhav Arjuna. Following the receipt of a formal support letter from the VCK, Arjuna declared to the waiting media that Joseph Vijay will lead the state as its next Chief Minister. The announcement has triggered massive celebrations among party workers across Chennai and other major cities in Tamil Nadu, marking the end of a period of deep political uncertainty that gripped the region following the election results.

The road to power was not without its hurdles for the cinema icon. In the assembly elections held on April 23, the TVK secured an impressive 108 seats. However, due to election commission protocols, the effective count dropped to 107 as Vijay, who contested and won from two separate constituencies, was required to vacate one seat. To reach the magic number of 118 required to form a government, the TVK needed external support. Over the past week, the party gradually built a coalition, gaining the support of 5 Congress legislators, 2 from the CPI, and 2 from the CPI(M). The addition of VCK’s support on Saturday finally pushed their tally to the required 118 mark.

The past few days were marked by significant tension as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, initially remained silent regarding Vijay‍‍`s requests for a meeting. Despite three attempts to seek an audience with the Governor, the TVK leadership was left waiting, fueling rumors of a potential constitutional deadlock. This administrative delay, combined with initial ambiguity from the IUML, led to widespread speculation that the state might be heading toward a period of instability. However, the IUML eventually clarified its stance, aligning with the TVK to facilitate a stable government.

Political analysts view Vijay’s ascent as a historic shift in Tamil Nadu‍‍`s political landscape, which has been dominated for decades by the DMK and the AIADMK. His transition from a beloved screen idol to the highest administrative office in the state mirrors the paths of legendary figures like M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa. As the state prepares for a transition of power, all eyes are now on the official invitation from the Raj Bhavan. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a massive event, symbolizing the birth of a new political era under Vijay’s leadership.
