Bangladeshi Youth Surrenders in Assam Court Seeking Return Home

A Bangladeshi citizen, identified as Din Islam Sheikh from the Gopalganj district, voluntarily surrendered to the Sribhumi District and Sessions Court in Assam, India, on Tuesday. According to a report by NDTV, Sheikh entered India illegally via an unmapped border route, facilitated by an individual identified as Ragbi. Unable to find a path back to Bangladesh on his own, Sheikh traveled to Silchar by train and eventually made his way to Sribhumi, where he chose to approach the District Legal Services Authority. The court has ordered him into police custody.

Following his surrender, the District and Sessions Judge directed authorities to process his case according to standard legal procedures. Advocate Tutiur Rahman Patikar, associated with the legal services authority, confirmed that the court-mandated legal process would be followed to provide the necessary aid. Sheikh is expected to be brought before the court again once the procedural requirements are completed.Assam Police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of his entry and attempting to identify the agent responsible for the border crossing. Police are also tracing the route he took to enter India to identify any potential security lapses. Once the legal and investigative formalities are finished, officials hope to proceed with the repatriation process.
