Thousands of Palestinian worshippers packed the historic Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday to observe the early morning Eid Al Adha prayers. The major religious gathering took place amid widespread concern over potential security escalations and continuous violations of the standing regional truce by Israeli forces. The vast ancient courtyard and adjacent plazas were completely filled with local residents who arrived at dawn to mark the annual festival. The gathering at Al-Aqsa for Eid prayers concluded with special supplications for national survival.
Worshippers openly prayed for a definitive end to the ongoing military occupation and sought global humanitarian solidarity for families trapped within conflict zones. The traditional four-day Islamic holiday commemorates the historical narrative of Prophet Abraham’s absolute devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son under divine decree. However, for most families across the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the festival is being experienced through an incredibly grim socioeconomic reality.
Although a bilateral ceasefire negotiated by international intermediaries has been technically active since late last year, continuous ground operations have kept the civilian population on edge. The threat of unexpected airstrikes and localized military raids has severely dampened festive traditions in major urban hubs. According to official data maintained by the Gaza health ministry, over 880 Palestinians have been killed due to various military actions since the truce was initialized on October 10, 2025.
Additionally, internal medical registries indicate that more than 2,645 individuals have sustained serious physical injuries from cross-border skirmishes during the same period. Despite these continuous casualties and high operational anxiety, the high density of the congregation at the holy site highlights a strong sense of spiritual resilience. Local community boards stated that participating in public prayers remains a critical non-violent statement of national identity.
Meanwhile, displaced families inside the Gaza enclave attempted to conduct downscaled holiday prayers within temporary tent settlements constructed near destroyed infrastructure. Severe financial blockades and a total shortage of livestock have prevented the vast majority of households from performing the ritual animal sacrifice. International relief groups noted that current border crossing blockades continue to prevent essential nutritional aid from entering the territory.
