Lionsgate Announces Sequel to Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’

Following the overwhelming box office success of the Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael,’ production house Lionsgate has officially confirmed that a sequel is in development. Despite various controversies surrounding the film’s release, it has performed exceptionally well globally, becoming one of the most talked-about projects of the year.Preparations for the second installment are already underway.

During a quarterly earnings call, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson announced the sequel, noting that the first film was unable to cover many vital chapters and popular tracks from Jackson’s life. He emphasized that several important events were left out of the initial cut, which will now be explored in the upcoming project.

Since its release in April, the film has grossed over $715 million worldwide. The first installment concluded with Jackson’s iconic Wembley Stadium performance during his 1988 ‘Bad’ tour. While the production faced significant hurdles due to external allegations against the pop star, Lionsgate remains committed to expanding the narrative.

Fogelson hinted that the sequel might not strictly adhere to a linear timeline, suggesting a narrative structure that moves both forward and backward. Approximately 25 to 30 percent of the footage already captured during the initial production phase may be integrated into the sequel to ensure continuity and depth.
