Suvendu Inducts 5 Ministers: Dilip and Agnimitra Join Cabinet

A new administrative chapter has begun in West Bengal as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari formally expanded his cabinet on Saturday. In a high-profile ceremony held in Kolkata, five ministers were sworn in to serve in the first-ever Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of the state. According to reports from NDTV and local media outlets, this initial group of inductees represents a strategic mix of organizational veterans and dynamic newer leaders. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, signifying the high importance the central leadership places on the governance of West Bengal.

The five newly appointed ministers are Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Khudiram Tudu, and Ashok Kirtania. Following the swearing-in, Adhikari emphasized that this cabinet is dedicated to ensuring rapid development and transparency in the state’s administration. Political analysts note that the selection of these individuals reflects the BJP’s effort to maintain representation from various socio-political blocks, including North Bengal, the tribal belts, and the Matua community.

Dilip Ghosh, a stalwart of the BJP in West Bengal, brings decades of organizational experience to the cabinet. As a former State President of the party and a full-time RSS pracharak, Ghosh was instrumental in building the BJP‍‍`s base in Bengal after 2014. Previously representing Medinipur in the Lok Sabha, his transition into the state cabinet is seen as a move to stabilize the administrative wing with a senior leader who commands immense respect among the party‍‍`s grassroots workers. His firm stance against the opposition has long been a defining feature of his political identity.

Agnimitra Paul, the lone female member in this initial cabinet list, transitioned from a successful career as a fashion designer to a key figure in Bengal politics. Since joining the BJP in 2019, she has quickly climbed the ranks, serving as the State President of the Mahila Morcha and later as a State General Secretary. Representing the Asansol South constituency, her political journey has seen both triumphs and challenges in recent years. Her inclusion is widely viewed as a move to address issues concerning women’s safety and empowerment, which were central themes in the party‍‍`s election manifesto.

The other three inductees—Nisith Pramanik, Khudiram Tudu, and Ashok Kirtania—further diversify the cabinet‍‍`s reach. Nisith Pramanik, a powerful voice from North Bengal, has been a crucial link between the region and the central leadership. Meanwhile, Khudiram Tudu and Ashok Kirtania are expected to focus on the development of tribal communities and the Matua population, respectively. These segments have historically been pivotal in the state’s electoral politics. With these appointments, the Adhikari administration signals a shift toward a more inclusive and decentralised governance model as it begins its five-year term.
