Crude Prices Spike as Trump Threatens Iran Amid Deadlock

Oil prices rise across Asian markets on Monday following a stark warning from US President Donald Trump directed at Iran over stalled peace negotiations. The global benchmark Brent crude jumped 1.7 percent to reach $111.13 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude increased 2.1 percent to stand at $107.62. The sudden price spike reflects deepening anxieties over the future of global energy supplies amid a prolonged diplomatic deadlock.

Energy markets have faced intense volatility for months.

The current crisis escalated after Iran effectively blocked the strategic Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for US and Israeli military airstrikes that commenced on February 28. Approximately one-fifth of the world‍‍`s total petroleum and liquefied natural gas shipments routinely pass through this vital maritime bottleneck. Trump issued an urgent message via his social platform, demanding that Tehran act immediately or face complete destruction. Conversely, state-affiliated media in Tehran reported that Washington refused to make any meaningful diplomatic concessions in its latest counter-proposals.

A temporary ceasefire agreed upon in early April is failing.

Trump recently cautioned that the existing truce is on massive life support after firmly rejecting Iran‍‍`s core negotiation terms. The US president is scheduled to hold an emergency briefing on Tuesday with senior national security advisers to evaluate potential military frameworks regarding the Persian Gulf. Claudio Galimberti, the chief economist at Rystad Energy, cautioned that international markets face a prolonged summer of economic pain unless the maritime corridor is immediately reopened.

The surging costs have directly inflated overhead expenditures for commercial enterprises globally. Irish carrier Ryanair disclosed in its annual financial summary on Monday that regional geopolitical instability has injected massive uncertainty into commercial aviation planning. To mitigate the volatile market conditions, the airline confirmed it has secured fixed-price hedging contracts for 80 percent of its jet fuel requirements in the upcoming peak season.
