As the days of Dhul-Hijjah progress, Muslims worldwide prepare for the upcoming celebrations of Eid-ul-Adha and the associated acts of worship. Among these essential observances is the Takbir-e-Tashriq, which is Wajib (obligatory) for every adult Muslim following the mandatory (Fard) prayers. The period for this recitation officially begins with the Fajr prayer on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, and concludes after the Asr prayer on Sunday, May 31.
This is a specific period of glorification.
The requirement to recite the Takbir applies to all adult men and women, whether they are performing the prayers individually or in a congregation, and regardless of whether they are at home or traveling. Following the completion of every Fard prayer during these five days, one must recite the Takbir at least once. Islamic scholars have recommended reciting it three times, although once remains the obligatory requirement.
The recitation is: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illallahu; Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; wa lillahi-hamd." This declaration serves as a profound affirmation of Allah`s greatness and monotheism. If one misses a Fard prayer during this window and performs it as a Qada (make-up) prayer later, the obligation to recite the Takbir remains tied to those prayers as well.Being mindful of this obligation is crucial.
During this sacred period, the focus should be on glorifying Allah through these recitations after every mandatory prayer. It is easy to become preoccupied with the preparations for Qurbani, but the importance of this Wajib act must not be overlooked. Communities and mosques often serve as vital reminders to ensure that all congregants are aware of the timing and the nature of the recitation.May Allah accept our humble service.
We pray that Allah grants the Ummah the ability to fulfill this duty of expressing His greatness and gratitude during these blessed days. May we spend every moment of this period in the remembrance of Allah and receive the immense rewards promised for such acts of devotion. Amin.
