Hajj 2026 Begins: Pilgrims Head to Mina for Worship

The formal Hajj pilgrimage has officially begun as more than 1.5 million pilgrims have converged on the holy sites in Saudi Arabia. On Monday, 8 Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims moved from Makkah towards the Mina tent city, chanting the "Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik." The atmosphere is filled with deep spiritual devotion as the world‍‍`s Muslim faithful assemble for the annual religious obligation.

Mina is transformed into a massive tent city.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has confirmed that all logistics are in place to ensure the safety and comfort of the pilgrims. Pilgrims will remain in Mina today, performing five prayers from Dhuhr today until Fajr tomorrow. Given the high temperatures in the region, authorities have advised pilgrims to remain hydrated and utilize cooling systems, including mist fans, installed throughout the site.

The day of 8 Dhu al-Hijjah is dedicated to prayer and reflection.

Pilgrims are spending their time reciting the Quran, offering Zikr, and performing Istighfar. Tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, the congregation will move to the Plains of Arafat, which is the most critical pillar of the Hajj. After remaining in Arafat until sunset, they will proceed to Muzdalifah for an overnight stay before continuing the remaining rituals, including the stoning of the Jamarat.
