The epidemic has impacted dozens of health zones across multiple provinces, with Ituri serving as the primary epicenter accounting for the vast majority of infections. Health officials note that the current outbreak is spreading faster than any previously recorded epidemic, trailing only the historic West African outbreak of twenty fourteen to twenty sixteen.
