Thousands of Muslim expatriates, including a significant Bangladeshi diaspora, gathered across major Portuguese cities to celebrate Eid Al Adha with deep religious devotion and community spirit. Congregations were organized early Wednesday (May 27) in prominent public parks, mosques, and Islamic community centers nationwide. Despite being far from their ancestral homes, the vibrant assembly turned parts of Southern Europe into a festive hub of unified Islamic traditions. The primary destination for the regional holiday prayers was located in the nation`s capital.
Lisbon`s Martim Moniz Park, an area with a dense concentration of South Asian residents, hosted one of the largest open-air Eid congregations in Western Europe. Thousands of worshippers dressed in festive attire began arriving at the plaza immediately after dawn to secure spots on the outdoor prayer mats. Before the main sequence, Imam Hafiz Maulana Misbah Uddin Zubayer addressed the crowd on the virtues of sacrifice, followed by the main prayer led by Professor Mufti Maulana Abu Said.
Concurrently, the port city of Porto witnessed matching structural mobilizations across its centralized Islamic facilities. Due to high structural density at the central Hazrat Hamza Mosque, management committees organized three consecutive prayer sessions to accommodate the large influx of participants safely. These early morning sessions were managed sequentially by Maulana Fakhrul Islam, Hafez Mehmut Sai, and Maulana Imran Hossein, while an adjacent large prayer sequence concluded smoothly at the Porto Central Mosque.
Local administrative boards and organizing committees reported that logistical preparations had been coordinated in advance with metropolitan traffic police departments to minimize municipal disruptions. Following the conclusion of the sermon, attendees engaged in traditional holiday greetings, helping ease the emotional isolation often felt by workers living overseas. The festive cycle concluded with families proceeding to municipal-sanctioned facilities to execute their religious animal sacrifices under state compliance frameworks.
